Release Paths from Memorial Unit

Memorial Unit, unit code DA, is a male state prison operated by TDCJ. Its Rosharon location does not make it part of the sheriff’s adult detention center. The official Memorial page lists a capacity of 1,931 and describes pre-release programming. Capacity and program availability describe the unit, not a named person’s date or completed release. A person leaving Memorial may be paroled, released to mandatory supervision, fully discharged at sentence end, transferred to another TDCJ unit, transferred to a different sovereign, or removed from the unit for another recorded reason.

Those outcomes are not interchangeable. Parole and mandatory supervision end prison confinement while legal supervision continues. Full discharge ends the state sentence or supervision obligation reflected by the record. A transfer between units is continued state imprisonment. The county Odyssey Jail Records branch ordinarily will not document a Memorial departure unless a separate county booking occurs.

Memorial Release Status Workflow

Begin with the TDCJ Inmate Search. Search by TDCJ number or SID number when possible. Otherwise, use the exact last name and at least a first initial, then compare more than one identifier. The form also offers first name, gender, and race. A current match can show unit location, offenses, parole-review information, and a Projected Release Date.

1. Search the TDCJ or SID number, or use the exact name rules on the form.
2. Confirm that the record identifies Memorial Unit and the correct person.
3. Read a projected date as an estimate for a current prisoner, never as a completed exit.
4. Search TDCJ IVSS for custody, parole, mandatory-supervision, release, or discharge events.
5. Use the proper status line for parole review or post-favorable-vote processing.
6. Request TDCJ history or a release document when an affirmative archived record is required.

TDCJ warns that its public search includes only people currently incarcerated in a TDCJ facility. A no-result cannot prove release. It may reflect release, a search mismatch, or another data circumstance. IVSS and state records carry the inquiry past that current-only limit. Memorial Unit and TDCJ Contacts

The TDCJ Unit Directory is the authoritative source for current operation, unit addresses, and contacts. Release status is often better handled through central TDCJ information, Review and Release Processing, IVSS, or records rather than an assumption that unit staff can disclose a full history.

The stage matters. The parole status line covers pre-vote information. Review and Release Processing covers status after a favorable vote and requires a TDCJ number, SID, or date of birth. A favorable decision can still precede programming, release-plan approval, certificates, detainer resolution, and physical departure.

TDCJ Search Fields for Memorial

The public form is designed to locate a current TDCJ prisoner, not to archive everyone discharged from Memorial. Its search and result limits should guide interpretation. Exact identifiers reduce false matches, while a broad name-only search can join unrelated people or miss a changed name.

TDCJ's no-charge email fallback accepts the full name and seven-digit TDCJ number. If the number is unknown, provide exact date of birth or approximate age and county of conviction. The service can return the TDCJ number, location, offense and court history described by TDCJ, prior incarceration history, and projected date. It does not provide photographs or Social Security numbers.

Note: A current Memorial match with a future date means the person remains in TDCJ custody at the result's effective time.

IVSS After Memorial Unit Custody

TDCJ IVSS is the stronger public state route after the current-inmate search stops answering the question. It supports name, SID, current TDCJ number, and previous TDCJ number searches, with a wildcard option. “View Details” provides more information and allows subscription. Coverage includes TDCJ custody and people on parole or mandatory supervision.

IVSS may provide notices about release or discharge, parole eligibility and decisions, movement on a bench warrant, and warrants. A subscription can use the channels available in the account, such as email, letter, text, or telephone. A notification remains an agency event alert, not a certified release document. Preserve its time and confirm a disputed event through TDCJ.

Parole

Release from confinement while the sentence continues under supervision.

A statutory supervised-release route governed by eligibility and Board rules.

Projected release date

TDCJ's estimate of release if parole does not occur sooner.

Discharge

The end of the state sentence or supervision obligation shown by the record.

IVSS support is available at 800-848-4284 or victim.svc@tdcj.texas.gov. County VINELink and IVSS are separate notification systems, so an old county subscription should not be assumed to follow a transfer into Memorial.

Obtain Memorial Release History

Use a narrow state request when the needed proof is an existing incarceration history, release certificate, discharge record, or other document not supplied by the public current-inmate screen. TDCJ's Office of General Counsel provides a Public Information Act route and an online form.

Identify the person with a TDCJ or SID number and specify the existing record and date range. Texas Government Code Chapter 552 applies subject to exceptions and redaction. A request does not require the agency to create an analysis, answer a research question, or supply future records. Privacy rules may also limit third-party access.

The sentencing court can add legal context. A judgment, sentence, later order, or warrant can explain why state custody continued or changed. It does not alone establish when Memorial staff completed departure. Match court and TDCJ records by identifiers and chronology. Note: Request a certified copy only when the process receiving it requires certification.

Memorial Among Five State Prisons

Brazoria County contains five current TDCJ male prisons: Memorial, Memorial, Ramsey, Stringfellow, and Terrell. This unusually dense footprint means a search phrased only as “released in Brazoria County” is ambiguous. It could concern the sheriff's jail, a city hold, or one of five state facilities.

All five state units use the same statewide custody framework. Current presence is checked through TDCJ. Release, discharge, parole, or mandatory supervision is followed through IVSS, offender-information services, release processing, the Parole Division, and state records. A unit-to-unit transfer remains TDCJ custody even when the person physically leaves Memorial.

Geography never replaces custody authority. Use the agency number, case number, date of birth, or several consistent details to connect stages and avoid a false match.

Transfers and Holds After Memorial

A detainer, warrant, court order, or another sovereign's claim can delay release or change the destination. TDCJ release planning may have to resolve those issues even after a favorable vote. A transfer to federal, local, or immigration custody ends the Memorial placement but does not mean the person entered the community.

Brazoria County's 2025 ICE Warrant Service Officer agreement is specifically tied to local criminal custody at BCSO. It should not be presented as proof that a Memorial departure automatically uses that local agreement. If TDCJ records support an immigration handoff, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator and ICE DRIL at 1-888-351-4024. If federal custody is supported, use BOP or USMS routes appropriate to the stage.

The conclusion should remain exact: released from Memorial, transferred within TDCJ, paroled under supervision, discharged, or received by another authority. A positive event from one system says only what that system records. Cross-check the next custodian before stating that all confinement ended.
